Updated masking guidelines effective October 15, 2024

What you need to know about masking protocols for patients and visitors:

Changes to Unity Health’s masking policies come into effect on Oct. 15, 2024 and were made to reflect
the current uptick in COVID-19 and flu community transmission. Masking is now required for patients
and visitors when they are in close contact with other patients and in waiting areas. Masks will still be
available at all entrances and in clinical areas.

A mask must be worn inside Unity Health sites where patients spend prolonged periods of time or
receive care including:

  • Waiting rooms/areas
  • Staff, physicians, volunteers and visitors must wear masks when providing care

Additional key messages:

  • While masking is optional in some areas, all are welcome to continue masking in all areas of Unity Health sites.
  • This change is based on recommendations from the Infection Prevention and Control team at Unity Health.

Masking requirements are subject to change depending on virus activity in the hospital and community
