Welcome to Providence Healthcare!

Providence Healthcare is committed to fostering a robust and thriving student placement program by championing excellence in practice and education. It is our vision to shape care through teaching and education. We are pleased to offer clinical placements in a variety of specialty areas, as we endeavor to make your time here an outstanding experience.

During your time with us, it is our hope that you will learn a great deal about Providence, your chosen profession, the area(s) in which you have your placement, and about the role that collaborative learning has on clinical outcomes.

Facilities and Resources

Parking

Paid parking is available on-site. Parking pay stations are located at: 

    • Entrances to Providence Hospital
    • Outpatient Clinics
    • D Wing
    • Houses of Providence
    • Exit gate

Food and Drink

The Seasons Cafe cafeteria is located in Providence Hospital, A Wing, on the 1st Floor. 

Food service runs from 11:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m., Monday to Friday, however, the space is open 24/7 for visitors, patients, residents and staff.

Tim Hortons is located at the main entrance to Providence Hospital. Tim Hortons is open from 6:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily.

Library

The Staff Library is located in the Knowledge Centre Room A221 and is open to all students. In addition to our collection of medical books and journals, we have a growing collection of books on personal development and business acumen.

We are open from 8:30 am to 4 pm Monday through Friday. Our Virtual Library, which can be found on the intranet, also contains our collection of journals, as well as searchable journal databases. Tuck Shop

The Tuck Shop in the Houses of Providence is located on the main floor of our long-term care home and can be reached by the Link to the Houses from the D-Wing. The Tuck Shop carries unique gift items, a variety of teas, coffee, soft drinks and baked goods.

Open hours: Monday to Sunday, from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Chapel

The Our Lady of Assumption Chapel is located on the 3rd floor of Providence Hospital.

Everyone is welcome to worship, pray or spend time in quiet reflection.

Pharmacy

The pharmacy is located in Providence Hospital at the entrance to the B Wing on the 2nd Floor.

Open hours: Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Weekends, closed until further notice.
 

Wi-Fi

We have free wireless internet hot spots available throughout Providence for patients, families and guests while at Providence. To access the service, connect to Providence Guest using the password Providence and agree to the ‘Terms and Conditions’. After a few seconds, your browser will redirect to its home page. You should now be connected to the internet.

Guidelines/Resources

  • Nursing staff in the Hospital and Houses of Providence work in three shifts: From 0700 to 1500hrs, from 1500hrs to 2300hrs and from 2300 to 0700hrs.
  • All other members of the interprofessional team work 7.5 hours per day, generally from 0830hrs to 1630hrs.
  • Smart phones may be used for reviewing or referencing clinical information in regards to your job duties
  • Please also refer to, General Administrative Manual: VII‐075, Social Media for Employees, Physicians and Volunteers.

Unity Health has an expectation that all employees, volunteers, students and physicians will maintain a professional, well-groomed appearance at work in accordance with safety standards and a professional image. There is a business casual dress code in the Hospital; however, all clothing and grooming should contribute to a positive impression of the Hospital. Professional conduct, in accordance with the Code of Conduct, is required at all times in the Hospital. This includes treating patients and co-workers with respect and professionalism.

At this time, students will not be provided with a Providence Healthcare badge and are required to wear their University/College identification badge at all times.

Troubleshooting

Your account may go dormant if you have not logged in over a span of eight weeks or more. Please contact Help Desk  at 416-285-3666 or ext. 3000.

Students may only be placed/complete rotations at Unity Health Toronto where there is a current Academic Affiliation Agreement between Unity Health Toronto and the student’s educational institution. If you wish to arrange a placement at Unity Health Toronto please contact your school’s placement coordinator.

Once you register on the Student Registration System (SRS), the Student Centre will provide you with your username and password.

Some learners will be provided with a FortiToken (Two-factor authentication) to access email off site. See here for more information. 

FortiToken emails expire after 7 days. Please contact Help Desk for a new FortiToken at 416-285-3666 or ext. 3000.

Your account may still be active based on your registration on the SRS.
