Compassion & De-escalation

February 13 @ 12:00 pm - 2:00 pm

Collaborative Learning Student Series – Electives

The Collaborative Learning Student Series Electives will take place on various days and times throughout the year.  Many of the activities have limited registration and learners are encouraged to sign up early to secure a spot.  Registration will be open 2 weeks prior to the event.

Program: Compassion & De-escalation

During this session learners are introduced to the concept of escalation and using a compassionate approach to de-escalate a situation.  Learners will have the opportunity to hear a patient’s perspective, work in small groups and problem solve different approaches.

Objectives:

  1. Acquire an appreciation of patient’s perspectives while providing care.
  2. Reflect on person-centered care as well as empathy for an individual and describe a de-escalation technique used for reducing responsive behaviours.
  3. Discuss and recommend strategies that support empathetic interactions with patients and create meaningful team interactions with patients.

Registration: Click here to register.

Accreditation:

These learning activities are approved by the University of Toronto, Centre for Advancing Collaborative Healthcare & Education (CACHE) for IPE credit.
